more than just a holiday...it's a little bit of heaven.
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
Rorke’s
Drift Lodge lies nestled against the side of the Sinqindi Mountain and
overlooks the battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana.
Guests are assured of awe-inspiring views that showcase an
African landscape in its essence. From the Lodge one sees very
little of the urban development of the area and the spectacularly
vivid night skies are unrivalled.
The
305 hectares on which the Lodge is located are home to wild roaming
Kudu, Blesbuck, Duiker, Impala, mountain and common Rhebuck, Warthogs,
Steenbuck, Bush Pigs, Porcupine, Servals, African Wild Cats, Spotted
Gennets, Lynx and Leopard. Blackback Jackals regularly breed on the
property and more than 120 species of birds have been identified in the
gardens. The most significant of these is the Paradise Flycatcher and
our very own breeding pair of Ground Hornbills who have religiously
produced a chick each year since the Lodge opened its doors along with
5 species of Eagles.
At
Rorke’s Drift Lodge the guest is King. We have tried to ensure
that our guests have the very best comforts that we can possibly
supply. Our Main Lodge building has a cozy lounge with a warming open
hearth log fire for the cold winter days. DSTV and video facilities are
available. The lounge leads out onto a spacious deck where we serve
breakfast and dinners (weather permitting) and guests can savour the
breathtaking views at their leisure. There is a pool and a deck for
long lazy afternoons as well as a fire pit for early evening get
togethers.
The
kitchens at Rorke’s Drift Lodge are the domain of international
chef, Charles Hickman, who has worked in both the USA and the UK. Our
guests rate Charles’ culinary skills as exceptional and guests
with specific dietary requirements are well catered for.
The
spacious rooms of Rorke’s Drift Lodge have been decorated in a
contemporary African style and guests can revel in the comforts of
percale sheets, top quality beds, hair dryers at the dressing tables,
overhead fans and tea and coffee facilities. The bathrooms all have
spacious rain showers complemented by our guest amenities.
The
tours to the battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana are
legendary. World class guides take the guest down the paths of history
and paint vivid pictures of tragic battles that changed the face of
Africa and the world. An experience not to be missed! Other activities
that guests can enjoy are bird watching, serious hiking, casual walks
on the property and visiting other historical site.
We
are serious about service at Rorke’s Drift Lodge and right from
the time of the first enquiry our guests are assured of exceptional,
friendly service. In order to ensure that our guests’ stay in the
area is memorable we offer an advisory service of what’s on offer
in the area and we will take care of all arrangements on their behalf.
ROOM DESCRIPTIONS
KUBILI (Zulu for the number two)
Historically,
our second room to be renovated. Originally the building started out as
a reservoir for a generator. It then had a second room built on top of
it when Lister Engines made their appearance. Now it has undergone a
huge transformation. A deck on the upper level (steps to get up there)
offer the guest unparalleled views of the battlefields. We consider
this room to be our romantic room. The bed is sumptuously dressed in
percale sheeting with cushions, throws and an electric blanket for the
winter months. Downstairs the bathroom is wonderfully spacious
and the shower area can easily accommodate two people at the same time.
This room is not recommended for our older guests who have problems
with staircases.
KUTATU (Zulu for the number three)
A
twin bedded room on the Main Lodge with a separate entrance that is
only a two metres from the front door of the Lodge. Luxuriously
finished with all the necessities a traveller could want including tea
and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, lighting in the right areas,
electric blankets on the beds for the winter and a ceiling fan for the
summer. The spacious bathroom sports a shower for two with a large rain
shower head and complementing amenities to make bathing a very
comfortable affair. This room is especially suited to guests who may
have difficulty moving around.
KUNE (Zulu for the number four)
Kune
is our family suite. Guests are welcomed into the small private lounge
that has a cozy fireplace in the event of sub-zero temperatures. Off
the lounge is a twin room perfect for the children (be they adult or
junior). The finishes in this room match the rest of the Lodge and beds
are luxuriously dressed in their white percale linen with cushions
abounding for comfort. Off this room is a passage that takes the guest
to the sunny and bright Main Bedroom that is also dressed in the same
way. At the other end of the passage is a separate toilet and bathroom
that has a luxurious shower. All the rooms have ceiling fans for the
hot days and for added comfort there are block out curtains should you
want to sleep late.
KUHLANU (Zulu for the number five)
This
room is certainly our prime facility. It has been purposely built to
make the very best of our stupendous view. The twin bedded room has
large glass doors leading out onto a veranda that affords the guest the
very best view of the Malakate Mountain and the plains of Zululand. The
bathroom is also strategically placed with large picture windows so
that the guest can enjoy these same views. There is a small lounge with
a sleeper couch that can cater to a young family. Set away from the
Main Lodge this room is secluded and very private.
